Summer 2020 Internships: In Their Own Voices

This summer, more than 80 Menlo College students participated in internships in California and around the world, gaining valuable experience in this uncertain time.

Devon Nemelka

Major: Marketing

Title: Marketing Intern

Site: Amorphology Inc.

Devon landed her summer internship at Amorphology, a company that “leads the revolution in metal manufacturing and material innovation.”

“This role focuses on outbound marketing,” Devon said, where she had the opportunity to work “closely with the CMO to create branded content and use marketing segmentation research to identify the best audience to market to.”

As the summer winds to an end, Devon reflects, “I am humbled to have been given the opportunity … Their passion for innovation made this experience a memorable one and I am looking forward to applying what I have learned in my future endeavors!”

Courtney Cooper

Major: Business Management – Entrepreneurship

Title: Marketing and Communications Intern

Site: Stroke Forward

When Courtney saw the opportunity to help Stroke Forward, a small, early-stage nonprofit, develop and execute a comprehensive marketing and social media strategy, she jumped at the chance.

“My long term career goals include either starting or running a non-profit organization or a type-b business for the benefit of those with disabilities or mental health issues.”

“Working for Stroke Forward” Courtney says, “will ultimately help me both in the non-profit and start-up sector as we are working with limited funds but a strong mission statement.”

Sam Baker

Major: Finance

Title: Private Equity Analyst

Site: Bellator Trust

Like so many students searching for an internship in the midst of the summer 2020 global pandemic, Sam experienced a few twists and turns — but he was persistent and kept his head in the game.

“After my original summer internship was cancelled due to COVID, I was happy to get any opportunity at all, but my experience as a private equity analyst at Bellator Trust has exceeded all possible expectations.”

At Bellator Trust, a small private equity search fund, Sam created financial models for potential investments, including LBO (leveraged buyout) models and DCF (discounted cash flow) analysis.

Now, at the end of summer, Sam reflects, “With live transaction experience and a phenomenal group of talented colleagues, this summer has been one to remember.”

Kayla Rebozzi

Major: Marketing

Title: Marketing Intern

Site: Addison Marketing

“This summer’s internship was unlike any internship experience I have had. Working next to the company’s CEO, Frances Mann-Craik (Menlo College class of ’76), has given me all of the tips and tricks to be successful in this position.

“Throughout the course of the internship I have bettered my understanding of traditional and digital marketing and the impact of social media. I was successfully able to develop a cohesive Go-To-Market strategy that touched all the bases of competitive research, position and messaging, social media criteria and a communications platform.

“With notice of my success and integrity, I have been offered a position to continue on the Addison Marketing team. Moving on after this internship I will be continuing as an independent contractor for Addison Marketing to continue the development and strategy for the next phase of our project. I am thrilled to continue this experience with Frances and the rest of the team and am looking forward to the up and coming months.

“I feel this is the main reason why we have these internships in the first place: to gain experience, opportunities, and meet extremely smart and amazing business leaders, like the ones that we all will one day be.”

Anthony Philip Ramos

Major: Business Management – Human Resource Management

Title: HR Intern

Site: GAOTek Inc.

At the start of his internship with GAOTek, one of the world’s leading suppliers of high quality engineering products, Anthony said, “I believe that being an intern at this company will help me build relations to further my career in HR.”

At GAOTek, Anthony was in charge of recruiting future interns. On the job, he learned the full life cycle of recruiting — everything from developing key recruiting relationships, posting job ads, screening applicants, and scheduling and conducting interviews.

Now, towards, the end of summer, Anthony reflects, “Being supported through the Menlo College internship program has helped me navigate my first job experience from a structural learning standpoint. I’m glad to finish my college career more prepared for the modern job market.”
